About the Authorization Specialist Position

Reports to: Authorization Supervisor

Evaluates patients referred to the Organization; identifies insurance coverage, plans and coordinates authorization for home care services.

Authorization Specialist Responsibilities

1. Verifies insurance coverage and obtains initial authorizations for services and seeks reauthorization for ongoing and additional services.
2. Works with Clinical Supervisors and staff clinicians to gather, collate, and report patient care summary information to managed care Case Managers.
3. Obtains and documents prior authorization for home care services from insurance providers.
4. Ensures maximum third party reimbursement through direct oversight of insurance verification and authorization processes.

Authorization Specialist Qualifications

1. Minimum of two (2) years' experience, at least one (1) of which is in public health or home care nursing.
2. Demonstrates an ability to work with other health care clinicians and knowledge of third party reimbursement.
3. Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision.
4. Demonstrate excellent observation verbal and written communication skills.
